You may know of Bottle Shock as a movie that came out in 2008 based on the 1976 wine competition referred to as the “Judgment of Paris,” where California wine defeated French wine in a blind taste-test, but bottle shock, or “bottle sickness,” is an actual condition that could create muted or disjointed fruit flavors, flat flavors and aroma, or even an off-putting odor. Additionally, the tannins and alcohol can taste sharper and overwhelming. But, have no fear! Bottle shock is temporary and all your wine needs is some time to rest. Luckily, The Wine Grotto at STORBOX Self-Storage in Pasadena has the perfect spot for your wine!
Causes of Bottle Shock
Bottle shock is a reaction that occurs immediately after corking, due to oxygen absorption during bottling, as the result of adding sulfur dioxide during bottling, or as the result of being jostled or shaken, usually during transport. If you have seen the movie Bottle Shock, the Sommelier taking California wines back to France asked other passengers on the airplane if they would carry a bottle or two so that they wouldn’t be packed into the cargo hold, where they would surely be shaken about. Renting a self-storage unit may have been the best decision you ever made. You have plenty of room at home now and can pack away anything that seems to be encroaching on your living space. But what happens when your storage unit starts to get full? Adding a box here and there can definitely pile up, literally, and soon your unit may not have much more room. At that point, you have two options:
- Get a bigger unit (we have a variety of unit sizes at STORBOX!)
- Reorganize your unit (a lot more work, but better on a budget)

After previously stopping off to check in on prehistoric time storage, our STORBOX trip through time finds us dropped into the Middle Ages in England! A time of chivalry, sword fighting, dashing knights, and fair maidens – but danger lurks around every corner. The solution? High quality storage to protect treasure, of course!
Yes, storage units have been around for a long time, they just have not always looked the same or protected the same items. Instead of being made of cement and metal, they are forged from wood culled from mighty oaks in the surrounding Dark Forest of Unraveled Time and wrought iron made by the finest dwarf blacksmiths in the land. These formidable containers are stored in the very heart of a castle, surrounding by thick walls of stone, parapets filled with archers, more stone walls, and a three-foot thick drawbridge wall, and a moat containing the fiercest crocodiles captured in travels abroad by mighty warriors! At STORBOX, we provide high quality, climate controlled, and secure self storage units for our great customers. And while we strive to provide the best storage service around, we know we’re not the first to offer storage containers. In fact, you have to go back all the way to the prehistoric ages, a time when fire was a thing of magic and cavemen daily fought with velociraptors and pterodactyls (that’s scientifically accurate, right?). So jump into the greatest time machine of all with us, imagination, and ride a swirling vortex of baseless thought and conjecture into the distant past to find the original storage container!
Located somewhere between a bubbling swamp of tar and a lava-filled active volcano sits a dank, dark cave that the local cavemen have decided to use as their own storage container. Getting ownership of the cave wasn’t easy. A mixture of Sleestaks and giant bats had to be routed out in order to use the cave to now store valuable possessions. Every so often, our cavemen friends have to fight off marauding bands of Neanderthals. While not as highly advanced as the cavemen, they make up for their lack of ingenuity with brute strength!
