The Halloween season is upon us, so it’s time to break out the decorations. Whether you only put up some fake cobwebs or you convert your whole home into a haunted house, you probably have some boxes and containers labeled “Halloween” taking up room in your closet or garage. If your spooky decorations are beginning to clutter the room, it might be time to consider your storage options.
Halloween Storage Tips
Here are a few easy steps to remember before storing your Halloween supplies:
- Clean your outdoor decorations prior to storing. If you have items you keep outside during the Halloween season, make sure they are clean before placing them in boxes for the year. Your decorations should be completely dry and free of cobwebs. If you have any inflatable decorations, make sure they are not damp before folding them up.
- Get organized. It will be even easier to set up your Halloween decorations next year if you store them in an organized manner this year. Clearly write on each box what is inside.
- Get the right boxes. Your items may suffer damage if they are not stored properly. Consider hard, plastic or rubber containers that will not lose their shape. You may also want to consider clear containers so that you can see what is inside without opening them up.
- Protect the fragile items. It is advisable to use bubble wrap and unprinted newsprint when storing fragile items. Make sure they are not placed underneath heavy items and that they are stored in a strong container that will maintain shape during the year.
Storing Your Items
If you only have a few decorations, you may be able to keep them in one box in a closet that is out of the way. If you are one of the many Southern California families who love to decorate this time of year, you may have boxes upon boxes of goodies. If this is you, you probably don’t want to see your Halloween decorations 11 months out of the year. Why not get them out of your way by putting them in storage? You know you won’t need these items till next October, so you might as well free up space by putting them somewhere safe and secure away from home.
