Spring break is usually an annual tradition reserved for the young, but everyone deserves a break after months of hard work. If you are going on spring break this year, make sure you remember to stay safe while trying to relax.
Stay Safe on the Road
Your spring break trip will be over before it begins if you don’t take the necessary safety measures on the way to your destination. Make sure everyone in the car buckles up. Have a navigator in the front seat who will stay awake with you. Also, make sure the car is in proper working order before hitting the road. As tempting as it may be to start your vacation early, remember to obey the speed limit and to never drive while intoxicated.
Choose Your Room Wisely
Did you know that some hotel floors are safer than others? Rooms on the first floor may be convenient, but they are the most likely to be broken into. Getting a room that is too high is not safe either. Request a room that is above the first and below the sixth floor. That way, if there is a fire at the hotel, you will be in a room that is easily reachable by a fire ladder.
Throughout your vacation, make sure you keep your doors and sliding doors locked at all times and only invite people into your room who you trust. When walking through the building, take note of where the fire extinguishers and fire exits are.
Always Drink in Moderation
For many, alcohol is an important part of spring break. Remember that you don’t have to be drunk to have a good time. Alcohol poisoning is a real problem and it can lead to serious health issues and dangerous situations. Drink in moderation with friends you trust. Take your drink with you when you leave the room. When traveling back to your hotel, use a designated driver.
Stay Safe on the Beach
Having a drink while sunbathing is common, but it can be dangerous. Drinking alcohol in the sun can result in bad sunburns and a painful hangover. The heat from the sun can actually increase the effects of alcohol. So take it slow and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Get to the shade quickly if you are feeling lightheaded or nauseous.
