At STORBOX, we have a deep respect for packing materials. They are what keep your belongings safe and sound while moving or transporting them to and from your home and self-storage unit. But we realized that we have covered the history of the cardboard box, the history of bubble wrap, and somehow neglected packing peanuts! (Sorry peanuts, we didn’t do it on purpose).
Like other packing supplies, packing peanuts too had a beginning, and so, once upon a time, there was a company called the Dow Chemical Company and one day, one researcher (or a team of them, we can’t be sure) had a brilliant idea, probably born from a horrible moving experience: what about making a small piece of foam that can fill all the empty spaces in a box to cushion what’s inside?
And so, in 1965, the packing peanut was invented and introduced as an alternative to traditional mailing packages. It was a huge success, as you may have already figured out, because you can find them everywhere. A more “green” alternative is even available today. You can use the foam peanuts to protect your packed items in transit, and then, when the package arrives, the receiver can just throw the peanuts into the garden or even pour them into the sink and water them. They dissolve in water and voila! No non-biodegradable issues.
At Storbox, we sell these “green” environmentally-friendly packing peanuts for the sake of our clients and the environment as a whole. As a self-storage facility, we aren’t just concerned about having the perfect place for you to store your belongings, but also, we really want to help make any type of packing or moving experience as stress-free as possible.
