A&E has begun filming Season 5 of Storage Wars in and around Los Angeles! For those of you who haven’t seen it yet, it is a reality television series based around the sale of storage units that have not been paid for. So, of course, we here at STORBOX are immediately interested.
In California, if you fail to pay for your storage locker for a prolonged period of time, an auctioneer can sell the contents. The show follows the auctioneering couple of Dan and Laura Dotson and a number of professional buyers who bid on storage units. The buyers only have five minutes to inspect the contents of the unit from the door entrance, so they never truly know what they are bidding on.
Who Will Be Featured in Season 5?
For fans of the show, it’s exciting news that many of the original crew will be back in action. Dan Dotson and his wife Laura have announced that they are a part of Season 5 and favorites such as Jarrod Schulz and Brandi Passante, Darrell Sheets, Ivy Calvin, and Rene and Casey Nezhoda are taking part as well. Darrell, “The Gambler” Sheets posted on Facebook that he is excited about the new season while Brandon and Kimber have taken to Twitter to tell their fans they are in the new season as well.
It appears that Barry Weiss, however, will have limited time on screen in Season 5. Darrell Sheets posted on Twitter that Barry won’t be back and Radar Online reported that Barry shot some farewell scenes.
Protecting Your Stored Items
If you watch Storage Wars, you may worry that your items can be sold as well. Under the California Self-Service Storage Facility Act, storage facilities may terminate the right of the occupant to use the facility if the rent is unpaid for 14 consecutive days. They must then send a notice to the occupant’s last known address and to an alternative address. The notice must show how much is owed and the date in which the owner will lose his or her rights. Only after the notice has been sent can the storage facility deny an occupant access. Furthermore, the property can only be sold to satisfy the lien after 14 days have passed since the date of mailing the notice.
If you have questions about your items, do not hesitate to call us at STORBOX by dialing (626) 793-9888 and learn more about our Pasadena storage facility. We will make sure that your possessions are secure!
