In Southern California, our temperatures are usually mild, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t consider a climate controlled storage unit. You may especially want to choose a climate controlled unit if the items you are storing are valuable or temperature sensitive.
In high temperatures, which we are more prone to in Southern California, things like candles or beauty products can melt, destroying the item itself, as well as anything else nearby. Humidity can also be harmful and cause items to warp, crack or split. Things such as electronics, wines, furs, documents, wood and leather can be destroyed if not kept at the proper temperature and humidity level. Bacteria and mold can grow when the temperature is unregulated. Additionally, vermin like bees, wasps or mice may be more attracted to areas that do not have climate control.
Large temperature swings should be avoided to keep your things in their best condition. Ideally, your storage unit should stay between 58 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Another advantage to climate controlled units is the comfort of you and your moving helpers. If you are working to organize within the unit, or just taking things in and out, you will have a much more pleasant experience if the unit is at a comfortable temperature.
At STORBOX, a Pasadena self-storage facility, we offer a wide variety of unit sizes with climate control. Our helpful staff will discuss with you about your individual needs and the types of things you intend to store to help you choose the right unit for you.
