Closets present fantastic storage opportunities, but they are rarely used efficiently. If you have large gaps between the clothes you have hanging and the shoes you have on the floor, you are not maximizing your storage space. Clean everything out of your closet and start from scratch. You need a new system installed and this is the perfect time to reorganize your belongings.
Start by Cleaning House
The process of taking everything out of your closet can be beneficial in itself. Take this time to review what clothes you really need. If you haven’t worn something in the last year, maybe you no longer need it. Why not consider donating it to charity? This will free up space and your donation is tax deductible.
Before making any storage purchases or building any shelves, think about what you need. Perhaps you want more shelves for folded items or cubbyholes for your shoes. You may want multiple hanging bars for shirts, a dolly rack for your pants, or drawers that pull out to house your underwear and t-shirts. Plan ahead so that no space is wasted.
Move in Your Furniture
If you have a large closet but a small bedroom, you may want to move your dresser inside your closet. This way, you won’t have to install shelves and it will free up space in your room. Depending on the height of your dresser, you will likely still have vertical space to hang clothes.
Use Every Inch
There are probably many opportunities for storage that you have not considered. The back of your closet door can hold bins and baskets. Shelves near the floor can hold your shoes. Shelves over your hangars are perfect for sweaters. Maximize your storage space in your closet so that you will have more open room outside your closet.
Consider an Armoire
Of course, many homes and apartments do not have the closet space necessary for an organized closet system. In such cases, a freestanding armoire may be perfect to maximize storage in the bedroom. Many of these easy-to-assemble armoires have shelves, drawers, and hanging rods to hold all types of clothing.
If You Still Need More Room
If your new closet space is still not sufficient, you may want to consider putting some of your prized items in storage. There is plenty of room at STORBOX for all of the clothes and other items you may not need right now.
