If you enjoy drinking and serving wine, you may want to consider starting a wine collection. Storing wine is easy as long as you have a temperature-controlled room that you can keep at a reasonably cool temperature. All you have to do is figure out what types of wine you enjoy and begin collecting!
Find What You Love
Reading the advice of specialists is not always the best way to learn about great wines. Instead, discover your favorites organically. Every time you drink wine, try something new. You are bound to stumble upon wines that are special to you. When you discover a new favorite wine, buy a few extra bottles. If you find a wine you like that feels young, buy a few more and begin storing them. Young wines often taste tight and can make your mouth pucker a little. Let them age in storage and they’ll reach their true potential.
The Staples of Every Great Wine Collection
The most important thing is to stock wine that you love, but there are specific wines that are found in the best collections. If you want a wine that is known for improving with age, consider a vintage Port, a top Bordeaux, a fine Sauternes, or a Burgundy. Of course, you do not have to spend a fortune to build a collection. You should also consider less expensive wines that are known to age well, such as an Australian Riesling or a French Chardonnay. These have tremendous upsides with little financial risk, so start buying!
Get Out There
One of the most fun parts of starting a new collection is the discovery of new flavors and textures. Make it an adventure by traveling with friends to any of the great wineries around the Pasadena area. The Pasadena Neighborhood Winery and the San Antonio Winery, for example, are nearby. You should also consider a trip to one of the many wineries along the coast. Get out there and try something new.
